Harddisk Search and Stats 2.2
Publisher's Description:
Harddisk Search and Stats - Harddisk Search & Stats is a very powerful Search Engine for your harddisk which is free for commercial and non-commercial use. It enables you to conveniently search large numbers of text/ascii-based files simultaneously (such as: .txt, .html, .ini, .php, .mbx, .pas, .bas, .c, .cpp files). Harddisk Search & Stats is ideal for those who are handling text files, such as programmers, web developers, computer professionals, system managers and other demanding users. An advantage of Harddisk Search & Stats is that - unlike most other search engines - it does perform any time-consuming indexing of your harddisk. It can directly search text-based files in all levels of a folder (recursive), or just one level, or your entire harddisk. Harddisk Search & Stats Search can search inside files, and search for files (using the file name) or combine both methods. When searching inside files, you can specify as many search terms you want, and there is no limit to the number of file types you can add for searching. For each search-term entered, the program will display an additional column in the search results.
More features: search files according to file type, search files according to filename, search using wildcards, search files according to file date, search files according to file size, sort and reverse-sort the search-result list according to: file location, file name, file type, file size, file date, occurrence of each search term; import file types from a folder, view/search individual files with the internal or an external viewer, zero-installation, easy uninstallation, Harddisk Search and Stats does not write anything into the registry, and it runs directly from CD-Rom, floppy or USB disk.

WildCard search for file CONTENT
Overall a fairly good product. What I really needed (and it doesn't do) was the ability to use wildcards to search for a specific pattern in all of my files. It permits wildcard in the filename, but that doesn't let me search for specific patterns in the files themselves. In other respects, it performed well.

Some suggestions here
a) The field "Search for file name" shows only when you maximise the window. I suggest allowing for this field to be displayed even when the program window is not fully maximised.
b) I suggest including a button which resets all the fields(like field for "Search for file type"). This could be very useful for those who're not too familiar with computers and are using this program because of work-related activities.
c) Detecting if more than 1 copy of the program is running. Usually, running more than 1 copy has no problems. But when there are 2 or more copies of the program running and 1 copy which contains an important search term is shut down before the other, the data would be lost.
d) Allowing for a file to be searched, without selecting "Search for file type". It's kind of annoying 'cos often, when people are searching for a file, they often don't recall its' file extension.
